"Way Of Dreams" features original music for drums, bass, guitar, and two saxophones. This music aims to give voice to the many parts of the self as illuminated through a creative process. As such there are loud, scary parts, quiet, introspective parts, and plenty of other things in between.
In an essay on dream analysis, Carl Jung wisely wrote, “It is the way of dreams to give us more than we ask." I think this is a perfect description of the music on this album: it encapsulates the idea of having plenty of material inside of ourselves to work with and develop if only we pay attention to it. Writing this music became a way of paying attention to and drawing from the material already inside myself, whether that meant memories from childhood or a current favorite song. This thinking influenced everything from decisions about balancing improvised and composed material to moods of songs (or sections of songs) to titles. In a larger sense, I believe continuing to use this philosophy as a starting point for creating will help to make future projects more personal and relatable.
